1. Self-Discovery Journal
Start a self-discovery journal about all the things that are happening with you.
It will help you understand where you stand right now — journal about your feelings, hopes, and fears.
What are you proud of? What is working and what is not working for you? Are you happy in your relationship? How is your interaction with others?
Are you showing up as the person you want to be?
Are you facing any setbacks or obstacles? How are you responding to them?
Have you reached a milestone or learned something new?
Are you feeling fulfilled? Do you like the way things are going? Any fears that are surfacing? Anything you want to change?
What are your hopes and dreams? Have you helped anyone or a cause?
Write everything down and begin focusing on what you are struggling the most.
Journaling will help bring to the surface what is buried deep inside.
As you are just starting this process, expect to experience a wide range of emotions like frustration, confusion, sadness, anger, and anxiety.
Don’t be afraid to feel the emotions, validating them, and allowing them to show.
Do you constantly question your decisions? Is fear making you hostage?
Are negative feelings controlling your thoughts? Do you lack self-esteem?
Deal with anything that is not serving you and holding you back. Make an honest assessment, with no judgment, at the things you are not happy within yourself.
Ask yourself if they’re under your control and can be changed. If yes, write down a plan to address it. If not, fully accept who you are, including your limitations.
Turn the page and don’t spend one more minute focusing on them.
Self-awareness will make you mindful of who you are — knowing your weaknesses will give you the chance to work on them, improve and grow.
3. Explore Your Strengths
Take advantage of your strengths and create the best version of yourself to hang around when accomplishing your goals and making your dreams come true.
Being aware of your abilities will help you recognize what you are good at and where you need some help.
Always seek personal growth. Self-development can be acquired through reading, learning new skills, self-education, and relationships.
Continuously improvement will strengthen your character, make you resilient, knowledgeable, and, overall, a better person.
The great thing about it is it just depends on you and your willingness to learn.
When you realize the power you have within, it will take your self discovery journey to a whole other level.
You will enjoy the process and become addicted to bettering yourself. It’s a great feeling!
4. Fight Your Demons
While on this self-discovery journey, unpleasant stuff may be revealed. Don’t sweep it under the rug!
Now is the time to confront it. That is what this quest is for, to get rid of everything that weighs you down. Nobody is perfect, and we all have our own demons to fight.
It doesn’t matter if it’s something you are not proud of or a past experience or trauma that still hurts and brings you pain or if it’s a current situation you’re in now.
Either way, it won’t go away until you face the problem and get to the bottom of it to stop from negatively affecting you once and for all.
For some, writing a letter or journaling gives them closure. For others, talking it over with someone they trust is helpful, and sometimes seeking a professional is the answer.
Whatever you choose to do, don’t leave unfinished business behind. When it is all said and done, you will be glad you have confronted your demons!
5. Cultivate Silence
Set aside some heart-to-heart time. It can be 10 minutes a day. Grab a coffee and find a quiet place to sit comfortably in solitude and breathe.
Take this time for self-reflection. Think about what is important to you and what you are currently doing and make order out of chaos. Are you losing sight of what matters?
When your thoughts wander, gently return to your breathing. With practice, your mind will quiet down.
In a fast-paced world, give your busy mind the luxury to tune out and remain in silence for a moment or two. Mute the outside noise to forge the connection between soul and body.
6. Find What Drives You
Discover what your passions are and incorporate them into your life. What do you love doing and excites you? When are you most happy? Do more of what fulfills you.
Listen to inner voice to learn what you want out of life and find your purpose. Write down your goals and follow through with an actionable plan so they can become a reality.
Pursue your dreams and don’t allow distractions to get in the way. Know the reason for everything you do.
Through self-awareness, you will be able to identify what drives you.
